The Difference Between Avoidance & Descent
Every journey with Persephone begins with an initiation — not a dramatic moment, but a quiet recognition: I can’t outrun this anymore.
This pillar is the threshold between who you’ve been and who you’re becoming. It’s the doorway where the surface-self loosens its grip and the deeper self begins to stir.
Avoidance is the old pattern.
It’s the frozen place.
It’s the part of you that learned to stay “light” so the world wouldn’t ask too many questions — or so you wouldn’t have to feel the ache beneath the surface. Avoidance masquerades as safety, but it’s actually the thing that keeps you disconnected, looping, and exhausted. It keeps your shadows in exile and your power at arm’s length.
Descent, however, is an act of devotion.
It’s what happens when you stop running and start listening.
Descent is not collapse — it’s conscious movement downward. It’s the willingness to walk into the places you once abandoned, not to punish yourself but to finally understand them. This pillar invites you to let the underworld teach you, rather than terrify you.
Initiation is the moment you say:
I’m willing to go beneath the surface so I can reclaim what’s mine.
Persephone doesn’t drag you into the dark — she escorts you, hand on your back, whispering that wholeness requires both worlds. This pillar sets the tone for everything that follows. It teaches you how to descend without losing yourself, how to meet your shadows with reverence, and how to allow the parts of you that have been silenced to finally speak.
This is where your underworld journey truly begins.
Not in fear — in intention.
Not in collapse — in choice.
Not in exile — in return.

The Energetic Thread
What Avoidance Does to the Body, and What Initiation Awakens
Every descent begins long before we consciously choose it.
The body feels the pull first.
Avoidance has its own vibration — a numbing, drifting, fog-like frequency.
It softens the edges of truth, not in a gentle way, but in the way dissociation dulls instinct.
Avoidance teaches the body to stay above the surface, to hover just enough to function but never enough to feel.
It shows up as:
• a subtle disconnect from your hunger, your desire, your intuition
• a heaviness behind the eyes or chest
• a sense of floating just a few inches outside yourself
• a fatigue that rest doesn’t fully touch
This is the Pre-Descent State — the body saying, “There is something below. You aren’t meant to live split from yourself.”
When we step into Persephone’s Initiation, the energetics shift.
The fog begins to thin.
The descent starts not with collapse, but with sensation.
You may feel:
• emotions that rise suddenly and without storyline
• warmth in the belly or womb space
• an ache in the heart that feels like longing more than pain
• the instinct to slow down, drop in, and listen
This is not destabilization — this is re-entry.
Your soul returning to your body.
Persephone’s frequency is gentle but unyielding.
She does not force you downward; she calls you inward.
Her energy wraps around the parts of you that have been numbed, coaxing them awake, whispering, “Come home. I’m here.”
As avoidance dissolves, sensation returns.
As sensation returns, memory returns.
As memory returns, truth rises — not sharp like Medusa’s, but ancient, womb-deep, instinctual.
Energetically, this pillar awakens the:
• Root — safety in returning to your body
• Sacral — emotional presence and desire
• Solar Plexus — the strength to face what you’ve avoided
• Heart — the compassion required to witness yourself honestly
Initiation is the moment your nervous system recognizes:
I am capable of going into the dark without losing myself.
In fact — it’s where you finally find yourself.
This energetic imprint is the invitation Persephone is known for:
not to descend into pain, but to descend into truth.
To touch what is real.
To reclaim what was frozen.
To remember the wholeness waiting in the underworld of your own body.
This is the hum of the descent — steady, ancient, awakening.
And once it begins, you cannot unknow it. You can only follow it home.
Signs This Wound Is Healing
(How the Initiation begins to transform your life)
As you allow yourself to descend — instead of avoid — subtle but unmistakable shifts begin to appear. These are signs that the Initiation is working through you, reshaping your nervous system, your choices, and your relationship to your own inner world.
1. You stop abandoning yourself in small ways.
You notice the moments you would normally distract, numb, or override — and instead, you pause.
You check in with your body.
Even if you still choose comfort, you choose it consciously.
This is sovereignty beginning to form.
2. Your emotional landscape becomes clearer, not louder.
Instead of being swept by vague anxiety or heaviness, you begin to name what you feel.
Sadness feels like sadness — not failure.
Anger feels like boundary — not shame.
Grief feels like movement — not drowning.
3. You feel yourself returning to your body.
You experience more moments where you are inside yourself instead of watching from outside.
Breathing feels deeper.
Food tastes richer.
Stillness feels safe instead of threatening.
4. You choose honesty over comfort.
You start telling the truth about how you feel — even quietly, even just to yourself.
You stop pretending you're “fine” when your body says otherwise.
Your internal world becomes a place you can inhabit instead of avoid.
5. Slowness becomes supportive instead of scary.
You no longer interpret fatigue or rest as failure.
You begin to understand that your nervous system is recalibrating, not collapsing.
You let yourself move at the speed of your healing, not the speed of pressure.
6. You stop chasing the “upper world” version of yourself.
You soften the compulsion to stay polished, productive, or in control.
You allow the raw, tender, unfiltered parts of you to be seen — at least by you.
Your inner seasons feel sacred rather than inconvenient.
7. You start feeling drawn to depth instead of fearing it.
You notice curiosity about your inner shadows.
Old patterns or memories surface without overwhelming you.
You feel a quiet, calm readiness to explore the deeper rooms of your psyche.
8. You begin to sense the difference between collapse and descent.
One is losing yourself.
The other is finding yourself.
And your body learns the difference.
Welcome to working with Persephone! Go slow. Take your time. Do what calls to do and come back when needed!
A Prayer To Persephone
**She Who Walks Between Worlds**
Beloved Persephone,
Daughter of Spring and Queen of Shadow,
You who know the turning of seasons
both above and below—
I call to you now.
Guide me to the doorway of myself,
the place where innocence meets truth,
where the girl I have been
bows to the woman I am becoming.
Teach me to hear the quiet summons,
the sacred pull beneath my ribs,
the whisper that says:
“There is more for you here.”
Walk beside me
as I take my first step into the unknown.
Let your presence soften my fear
and steady my trembling curiosity.
May I enter my own Underworld
not as a captive,
but as one who is ready to see.
Show me the path where
shadow becomes nourishment,
where depth becomes power,
where descent becomes initiation.
Persephone, keeper of thresholds,
open my inner gates gently.
Reveal what is ripe, what is true,
what is waiting to be claimed.
May I remember—
as you remembered—
that I was never meant to remain small.
I was meant to rise reborn.
With devotion,
I offer this descent to you.
Guide me well.
Hold me steady.
Illuminate the way.
So it is.
Take some time to welcome in Persephone as your guide. She will help you journey through your initiation. Grab your journal, get comfy and lean in. See what wants to be revealed.

What is calling you into this descent?
This card reveals the spark — the emotional tug, the intuitive nudge, the ache you can no longer ignore.
Card 2 — The Threshold
What you must acknowledge before you take the first step.
This card shows the truth you’ve avoided, the pattern that can’t come with you.

This card offers the gift or emerging identity that is already forming within the descent.
3 Card Pull - Persephone’s Initiation
Initiation Ritual: The First Step
Materials:
A single pomegranate seed (or berry, or red candle drop)
A small bowl of water
A candle
Your journal
Steps:
Light your candle.
Feel the glow of the surface world behind you — everything you’ve known, everything that’s familiar.Dip your fingers into the water.
This symbolizes the river you cross — the veil between who you were and who you are becoming.Hold the pomegranate seed in your hand.
Whisper:
“I am willing to see what has been hidden.”Take a deep breath and place the seed into the bowl of water.
Watch it sink or float.
This is your initiation — an omen of how your descent wants to unfold. If it sinks: you’re ready for depth.
If it floats: you’re being guided gently, step by step.
Journal the moment you felt life shifting recently.
The moment you felt the call.
The moment something inside you whispered: “There is more.”
Journal Prompts and Reflections
Let these questions guide your awareness deeper:
These tie directly into the moment of first descent:
What has been quietly unraveling beneath the surface of my life?
Where have I felt the subtle pull toward change, even if I wasn’t ready to name it?
What truth have I been circling around, avoiding, or postponing?
In what ways have I been living half-in, half-out of my own power?
If I imagine standing at the threshold of my Underworld, what emotions arise first?
Who is the version of me that senses something is shifting? What does she want?
What is the deeper desire or longing beneath this initiation?
What part of me is afraid to take the first step — and why?
What subtle signs, synchronicities, or omens have been preparing me for this descent?
BONUS Practice
When the Underworld Whispers
Throughout your day, pause whenever you feel a slight internal tug — a moment where something feels “off,” “new,” or “important,” even if you can’t explain it. These are the first whispers of initiation.
When you feel that shift:
Place your hand on your lower belly.
This grounds you into Persephone’s descent energy.Ask yourself:
“What is this moment trying to show me?”Notice the first sensation or emotion that rises.
Don’t analyze. Simply observe.Name the initiation aloud or in your mind:
“I feel something opening.”
“A truth wants to be seen.”
“This moment is inviting me deeper.”Take one tiny step toward it.
Send the text.
Admit the truth.
Write the idea down.
Listen to the instinct.
Move one inch toward the unknown.
This practice trains your body to recognize the moment the descent begins — so you can meet initiations with trust instead of fear.
Embodying The Frequency
To embody the energy of Initiation is to recognize the quiet moment when something in your life begins to shift — before anything on the surface has changed. Persephone teaches that the first gate isn’t dramatic; it’s subtle. It’s the instinct you keep circling around, the truth you feel in your chest, the pull toward something deeper even if you don’t yet understand why.
Initiation appears when you are energetically ready to grow.
It may look like a sudden clarity, a repeating sign, a conversation that shakes something awake inside you, or a choice that asks you to be just a little braver than you were yesterday. These moments are invitations, not tests — doorways opening because your soul is ripe for its next chapter.
To embody this frequency is to say yes to the first step, even when it feels tender or uncertain. It is choosing honesty over habit, curiosity over fear, willingness over avoidance. Persephone reminds us that the descent begins not with force, but with readiness — the quiet knowing that you are meant for more than the surface allows.
Trust the pull.
Trust the timing.
Trust that every initiation carries you toward a truer, fuller version of yourself.
Whenever you move through work this deep, remember that the body is the first place transformation is felt. Initiation doesn’t only unfold in the mind or the spirit — it moves through the breath, the nervous system, and the soft tissues that hold your lived experience.
Pause often.
Breathe into your belly.
Place a hand on your heart or womb space.
Let your body hear: “You are safe. I’m listening.”
Drink water. Stretch. Move gently.
Let your physical self catch up with your inner shifts.
And as you journey with Persephone…

The Tidal Current
The Tidal Current
Welcome to The Tidal Current — a space where nothing about you needs to be edited, softened, or made palatable.
This is the chamber where your truth is allowed to exist exactly as it is: raw, holy, tender, messy, sacred, angry, grieving, expanding, contracting — all of it welcome.
This is not a place for performance.
This is not a place to be “good.”
This is a place to exhale.
Here, you get to show up in the exact moment you’re in — not the moment you think you should be in.
Your voice belongs here.
Your experiences belong here.
Your process belongs here.
This space is for release.
For connection.
For sisterhood.
For the in-between moments while you move through the Temple and your own becoming.
Take a breath.
You have a place to land now.
